keep concerts in the database if someone removes them from their archive
When removing a concert from my archives I got an error message that if I remove it from my archives it will be deleted from the database. I left it there for now and wrote in to support concerned about this error message. I then proceeded to remove a dozen or so other concerts that I also didn't end up attending but was the only one who archived it...however, I didn't get the same error message, so I continued removing them from my archive. I then received a reply on my support I was told if there is only one…
1 voteWe have a number of different criteria that determines if a concert will be deleted when it doesn't have any attendees.
This criteria includes the source of the concert info (like if it came from a third party source such as a data service or if it was added by a user), the account type of the user (like a Verified Band/Venue, a Historian, or a regular user) and if the concert has any photos or videos uploaded.
In general, regular users able to add concerts that they attend, so if they didn't attend a concert that they created it usually gets deleted. Those concerts may get created again in the future by other users or via data sources.
We do this to help keep the database as clean and accurate as possible. As you can imagine, users are adding thousands of concerts per day, so we have to have…

Require simpler passwords to log in here. What's so valuable that requires a password so complicated?
I've never understood why sites with nothing of value require the most complicated passwords to log in. This it my first and last time on here because I'll never remember the password with upper case, lower case, a number a symbol and 8 characters. Why require passwords that many of us will never remember? What could anyone want to steal here, this suggestion?

Eliminate the ability to enter concerts with future date-stamps.
Why create a database of things that never happened? Eliminating the ability to add concerts with future dates will help with creating a more accurate database. Concerts with future dates can be cancelled and, I’m sure that you're aware, you now have a database of events that have been cancelled onward from mid-March 2020, into the unforeseeable future. I highly doubt that users are returning to now-cancelled entries to delete them, and I also doubt that that will change. What is the value in having a database filled with cancelled events?
Removing the ability to add concerts with future dates…
1 voteMany users (including me) get a lot of value out of having their future concerts in Concert Archives so they can keep track of their upcoming events, announce them to friends, and they don’t forget to add them afterward.
I agree with your point about dealing with cancelled events but we’ll probably need to solve that in a different way rather than excluding future events.
Definitely a worthwhile discussion though :)

Bulk Rename Venues
Reintroduce ability to bulk change venues should their names change.
8 votesPer our Database Guidelines (https://www.concertarchives.org/database-guidelines#venue-field) the Venue name should be the name of the venue when the concert took place. So if a venue changes it's name, that won't retroactively apply to previous concerts.
We know that this can be kind of annoying when you have multiple venue listings for the "same" venue with different names. We have plans for a feature to "group" together these types of venue listings that will hopefully solve that issue in the future.
In general, we don't provide bulk editing features to regular users because they make it easy to make a lot of incorrect changes that have site-wide affects. We have a lot of bulk editing features for admins behind the scenes, so if something needs to be bulk edited, you can message us at [email protected] and we can usually make the change for you (assuming it complies with Database Guidelines).
Cheers,
Justin

musicbrainz integration
there's an API and libraries for pulling data from musicbrainz, and a separate library for writing to musicbrainz.
1 voteI looked into MusicBrainz a bit more. They actually don’t have much concert data yet. Currently they have about 39,000 events, whereas Concert Archives has about 470,000. Even though many of their concerts aren’t on Concert Archives yet (mostly classic rock), that amount of data doesn’t yet warrant the effort it would require to integrate it.
I’ll keep an eye on the project and it’s definitely a good option in terms of artist data should I go down the road.
Thanks for letting me know about it!

Import events from Last.fm Events
Import events from last.fm
15 votesThis is not something we’re likely to support, unfortunately.
Last.fm doesn't provide an API for accessing a user’s concert/event history. I looked into other ways we might be able to collect the information, but their concert data is split across many different pages. For example, festival lineups can be spread across 10+ separate pages, and some important details like full lineups or multi-day event dates are not available in the main event list.
Because of that, building a reliable Last.fm importer would be a fairly large project, and there appears to be limited demand compared with our other import options.

Open Source the site
I love the site, and am a developer myself - would be glad to help fix bugs / develop new features, but I couldn't find a github repository or anything linked.
9 votesThanks for your interest in open sourcing the site. I especially appreciate those that have offered to contribute code! Others were wanting it to be open sourced so that they could host their own version of the site. While I understand that point, it’s really not feasible as the site has grown over the past 6+ years (in terms of technical complexity or a financial standpoint).

Disable the ability to allow the addition of concerts taking place in the future
Disable the ability to allow the addition of concerts taking place in the future as those concerts can be cancelled, which will lead to an inaccurate database as I doubt that users are returning to these entries 100% of the time.
1 voteWe’re embracing future concerts and added more features for them. If a concert gets cancelled, you can use the ‘Report Issue’ link in the navigation to let me know and to delete it.
